President Tinubu Lands in Ankara for High-Level State Visit to Türkiye


President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Ankara, the capital of Türkiye, late Monday evening to begin a strategic state visit focused on deepening bilateral ties between Nigeria and the transcontinental nation.


The presidential aircraft touched down at Esenboğa Airport at precisely 9:03 p.m. local time. 


President Tinubu was warmly received by a Turkish government delegation headed by Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin. Also present to welcome him were Ambassador Zayyad Abdulsalam, Chargé d’Affaires at the Nigerian Embassy in Türkiye, along with other embassy staff.


Upon arriving at his hotel, the President was greeted by a high-powered Nigerian delegation, including Attorney General and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun; Minister of Solid Minerals Dele Alake; Minister of Defence Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd); Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Minister of Women Affairs Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Kingsley Udeh, SAN; Chairman of the House Committee on Defence Babajimi Benson; Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication Daniel Bwala; and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.


The visit aims to reinforce the long-standing cordial relations between Nigeria and Türkiye while identifying new opportunities for collaboration in areas such as security, trade and investment, education, innovation, aviation, energy, defense, and social development. 


It builds on previous high-level exchanges, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's visits to Nigeria.Key highlights of the agenda include bilateral discussions between President Tinubu and his Turkish counterpart, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, as well as the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to formalize cooperation in strategic sectors. 


Additional engagements are expected to feature a Nigeria-Türkiye business forum designed to boost investor confidence and unlock fresh economic partnerships.


The state visit aligns with President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda to expand Nigeria's global partnerships for mutual prosperity.
