The Nigeria Police Force has successfully thwarted an attempted attack and planned mass kidnapping of children in the Kasuwan Magani area of Kaduna State, rescuing 76 minors and arresting three suspects.
Acting on credible intelligence received on January 5, 2026, around 8:00 pm, the Kaduna State Police Command learned that suspected bandits were plotting to ambush and abduct motorists transporting children through the area.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Kasuwan Magani Division swiftly mobilised a team of operatives, who rushed to the scene and engaged the attackers.
The prompt response repelled the assailants, ensuring the safe rescue of all 76 children, both boys and girls aged between 7 and 20 years .without any harm.
Three suspects were apprehended during the operation: Jonathan John (male, 25 years), Oliver Magaji (male, 27 years), and Bitrus Sawaba (male, 23 years).
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were trafficking the children to various parts of the country for child labour and domestic servitude.
The arrested individuals are currently in custody, while the rescued children are being safely housed at the Kaduna State Police Command Headquarters awaiting identification and reunion with their parents or guardians.
The police have launched a full investigation to uncover the complete details of the incident and apprehend any additional accomplices.
The suspects will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force's dedication to protecting lives and property.
He called on the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support proactive security measures.
