Peter Obi Desperate to Become Nigeria’s President ‘At All Costs’ – Reno Omokri

Former presidential aide and ambassador-designate Reno Omokri has accused Labour Party leader and prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi, of being desperate to become Nigeria’s president “at all costs,” including through what he describes as selective politicization of national tragedies.

Omokri’s criticism came in response to Obi’s recent statements highlighting a perceived “surge” in fire incidents across the country, which Omokri claims was an attempt to score political points against the Federal Government rather than showing genuine compassion for victims.

In posts on X, Omokri accused Obi of tribalism, sectionalism, desperation, and ignorance, alleging that the former Anambra State governor selectively comments on disasters outside the South-East while remaining silent on similar incidents in his home region.

He specifically referenced two major fire outbreaks in Anambra State:
A fire at Trano Rentals Hotel in Isuaniocha, Awka North, on January 1, 2026.

Another incident involving warehouses in Nnewi North on the same day.

Omokri also pointed to a fireworks explosion during a Christmas carnival in Umuchu, Aguata Local Government Area, on December 30, 2025, which reportedly caused multiple deaths and injuries, claiming Obi issued no public reaction or criticism.

In contrast, Omokri noted that Obi had commented on fire outbreaks in states including Lagos, Kano, Niger, Plateau, Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto, describing this pattern as politically motivated and aimed at de-marketing Nigeria.

Key quotes from Omokri include:“Peter Obi blaming ‘surge’ of fire incidents on the government is a sad display of your tribalism, sectionalism, desperation and ignorance.”

“But because of your desperation to be President at all costs, including the de-marketing of Nigeria, you chose to blame the government for what the environment is responsible for.”

Omokri further labeled Obi a “tribal irredentist,” arguing that his political ambition has compromised his ability to express unbiased sympathy and that many fire incidents stem from environmental factors rather than governance failures.

The remarks reflect the ongoing public feud between Omokri, a vocal supporter of President Bola Tinubu, and Obi, amid preparations for the 2027 elections and recent opposition realignments in the ADC.

No immediate response from Peter Obi or his camp has been reported regarding Omokri’s latest accusations.

The exchange continues to fuel debates on political motives, regional bias, and leadership credibility in Nigeria’s opposition landscape.
