The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has passed a vote of no confidence on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, accusing his administration of comprehensive failure across critical sectors of governance.
The resolution was adopted at the maiden 2026 meeting of the party’s State Working Committee (SWC) and contained in a communique signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara.
The PDP sharply condemned the prolonged closure of schools across Kwara South and Kwara North senatorial districts since December 2025, describing the decision as “counterproductive” and a direct threat to the future of children in the state.
“Shutting schools in response to insecurity reflects leadership failure rather than a solution,” the party stated, demanding the immediate reopening of all affected schools and the deployment of enhanced security measures around educational institutions.
The party insisted that children’s right to education “must not be mortgaged” due to the government’s inability to guarantee safety and protect lives and property.
The PDP also lambasted Governor AbdulRazaq over his “frequent and prolonged absence from the state,” alleging that he has spent extended periods in Abuja while insecurity and governance challenges escalate at home.
“The governor’s continued absence has created a leadership vacuum and rendered the government largely unresponsive to the plight of Kwarans,” the communique read.
In a particularly strong condemnation, the PDP described as “shameful” the recent violent assault on elderly women who staged a peaceful protest demanding the release of their kidnapped relatives.
The party alleged that the women were attacked by suspected government-backed thugs in the full view of police officers who allegedly failed to intervene.
The SWC issued a seven-day ultimatum to Governor AbdulRazaq to arrest, publicly parade, and prosecute those responsible for the assault, warning that failure to act would make him complicit in the attack.
The party further raised the alarm over the abduction of more than 22 persons across several communities in Kwara South between Christmas Day (December 25, 2025) and early January 2026.
Among the high-profile victims are His Royal Highness, Oba Olanipekun, the Oniwo of Afin, and his son, a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The PDP said abductors have threatened to kill either the monarch or his son if ransom demands are not met.
The PDP described the rising wave of kidnappings and the prevailing climate of fear as clear evidence of a “breakdown of governance” and worsening insecurity under the current administration.
The party called on the state government to urgently restore security, protect citizens’ rights, and end the atmosphere of fear gripping Kwara State.
The development signals heightened political tension in the state ahead of future electoral cycles, with the opposition PDP intensifying its criticism of the ruling APC-led government.
