The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, led by its 2023 governorship candidate, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, has declared the party fully prepared and united to reclaim power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
The bold statement was made during a Southwest stakeholders’ meeting held at the Ake Palace Grounds in Abeokuta.
The event attracted National Assembly members, state lawmakers, former legislators, and party leaders from across the region, serving as a powerful mobilisation platform to strengthen the PDP’s position in Ogun State.Adebutu dismissed claims that the PDP was weakened, insisting the party remains strong, cohesive, and increasingly popular despite alleged intimidation from the ruling APC.
“Those writing PDP off are living in denial. This party is alive, strong, and ready,” Adebutu said. “The people of Ogun are tired of over-taxation, hardship, and misgovernance.
2027 will mark the end of APC rule in this state.”He urged members to intensify grassroots efforts and drive mass voter registration, describing the Permanent Voter Card as the most effective weapon for securing victory through the ballot box.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who attended with the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Debo Ogundoyin, encouraged the Ogun chapter by referencing his state’s successful political comeback.
“Oyo PDP was once in your position, but today we are in government. Ogun will also triumph,” Makinde declared.
“The PDP is alive and well, and those who think otherwise will be surprised.”Former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, called for continued unity and focused grassroots engagement, describing these as essential ingredients for success in 2027.
The meeting recorded notable defections into the PDP, including former APC members from Ijebu Ode Local Government Area and ex-New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) members from Ogun East Senatorial District, led by Wasiu Ajirotutu.
Party leaders hailed the large turnout and wave of defections as strong evidence of growing public trust in the PDP’s ability to reclaim Ogun State and build momentum across the Southwest ahead of the next general elections.
