A Lagos court has convicted AAC Consulting Limited for stealing over N30.56 million belonging to contract staff of Chevron Nigeria Limited, imposing a N5 million fine on the company with a threat of winding up if unpaid.
The judgment was delivered on January 23, 2026, by Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), through its Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, prosecuted the case.
AAC Consulting Limited and its Managing Director, Anthony Adeoye, were initially arraigned in 2023 on a 50-count charge that included stealing and issuance of dud cheques related to funds diverted on or about April 27, 2013.
The defendants originally pleaded not guilty, and the trial commenced on June 5, 2023, with the prosecution presenting two witnesses and tendering documentary exhibits.
In December 2023, following full restitution of the diverted sum, N30,564,635.81 to the affected Chevron contract workers, the defendants changed their plea.
The charge was amended to a single count of stealing against the company alone, contrary to Section 285(1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The amended charge accused AAC Consulting Limited of dishonestly converting the money, which was meant for the contract employees, to its own use.
Justice Oshodi convicted the firm as charged. In addition to the conviction, the court imposed a N5 million fine, payable within 14 days. Failure to pay the fine would result in the winding up of the company.
