Pastor Chris Okafor, founder of Grace Nation International (also known as Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry or Liberation City), has announced a temporary break from preaching duties during the church's New Year service on January 1, 2026.
In a video from the service, Okafor informed congregants that he would hand over pulpit responsibilities to four associate pastors for the month of January 2026.
He cited the need for a personal retreat and time to rest and spend with his newly wedded wife, Pearl, including a delayed honeymoon.
The decision follows a series of high-profile scandals in late 2025 involving allegations from Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, who accused the pastor of a long-term intimate relationship and breaching a marriage promise.
The controversy escalated with claims from Okafor's ex-wife and public calls for accountability, including suggestions from commentators and a governor's aide that he step aside temporarily for reflection.
Okafor had previously addressed the issues in church, issuing a public apology while disputing some allegations.
He proceeded with his wedding in December 2025 amid threats of disruption.
The temporary step-down allows the ministry to continue services uninterrupted while Okafor takes personal time. No further statements have been issued by the church regarding a return date beyond January.
