Osun APC Accuses Adeleke Govt of Fueling Local Council Crisis, Urges NJC Intervention

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke's administration of deliberately creating legal chaos to undermine elected local government officials.

The party has called on the National Judicial Council (NJC) to intervene urgently.

APC State Chairman Tajudeen Lawal, speaking at a press conference in Osogbo, linked the crisis to a February 10, 2025, Court of Appeal judgment that reinstated APC-elected chairmen and councillors after nullifying their earlier removal.

He claimed the state government ignored the unappealed ruling, leading to attacks on reinstated officials, including the killing of Irewole Local Council Chairman Remi Abbas on February 17, 2025.

Lawal further alleged that the government conducted a disputed local council election on February 22, 2025, amid pending court challenges, and filed multiple suits on the same matter, amounting to abuse of court processes.

He urged the NJC to act on petitions against involved judges to restore public trust in the judiciary.Meanwhile, local government workers resumed duties on January 5, 2026, ending an 11-month strike sparked by the APC-PDP dispute over council control.

Secretariats saw heavy police presence and low worker turnout, with staff screened before entry and declining media interviews.

Osun NULGE Chairman Dr. Kehinde Ogungbangbe welcomed the resumption but accused police of bias for allowing APC chairmen access.

APC council executive spokesperson Adegoke Ogunsola countered that security forces were upholding legality.

Federal lawmaker Bamidele Salam condemned the alleged harassment and detention of an Egbedore council worker, Taiwo Adebayo, as seen in viral videos.

He called on Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to withdraw officers from "illegal duties" in the councils.
