Dangote Petroleum Refinery has strongly refuted media reports claiming it is shutting down operations for maintenance, labelling the allegations as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on January 5, 2026, the refinery emphasised that production remains stable and uninterrupted, with adequate Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) supply assured for the domestic market.
The facility disclosed that it is capable of supplying 40–50 million litres of PMS daily throughout January and February, depending on market demand.
On January 4 alone, it produced 50 million litres and loaded out 48 million litres via its gantry, with current stock levels sufficient to meet national consumption needs for over 20 days.
The refinery clarified that routine maintenance on specific units does not affect overall operations due to its integrated design. While work may occur on units like the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) or Residual Fluid Catalytic Cracking (RFCC), other key units, including the Naphtha Hydrotreater, Continuous Catalyst Regeneration (CCR) Reformer, and Hydrocracker continue to operate, producing PMS, diesel, and aviation fuel.
Since December 16, 2025, the refinery has consistently loaded 31–48 million litres of PMS daily, volumes verifiable through records held by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
Dangote reaffirmed its ex-gantry price of N699 per litre for all marketers and bulk buyers, urging retailers, institutional users, and consumers to prioritise locally refined products over imported fuel, which it described as costlier and of inconsistent quality.
The refinery accused petroleum importers of sponsoring the false shutdown reports to justify recent pump price hikes, actions it said run counter to national interest and exacerbate economic hardship for Nigerians.
It warned that without domestic refining capacity, post-subsidy petrol prices could climb to as high as N1,400 per litre, highlighting the stabilising impact of local production on the downstream market.
Reiterating its commitment to Nigeria’s energy security, the refinery stated it adheres to global standards for maintenance without disclosing internal schedules and will continue supplying high-quality products to support economic growth.
Stakeholders were advised to disregard misinformation, guard against price manipulation, and rely only on verified sources for updates.
