Ooni of Ife Praises Zulum, Says Borno Has Potential to Feed Nigeria

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has commended Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum as a "true reformer and beacon of transformative leadership," while emphasizing the state's immense agricultural potential to feed the entire nation.

During a private meeting at the Government House in Maiduguri on January 2, 2026, the monarch described Borno's landscape as "beautiful" and pledged to mobilize investors to tap into its abundant resources.

"Honestly speaking, Borno is a beautiful state," the Ooni remarked, praising Zulum's dedication to rebuilding the state despite previous security challenges.

He highlighted deep historical connections between the Yoruba and Kanuri peoples, stating, "The Kanuris are our cousins; we are blood relatives, very strongly. I am a student of history, and I have traced our link and affiliation."

The Ooni was in Maiduguri primarily to attend the combined convocation ceremony of Kashim Ibrahim University, where he has been appointed Chancellor.

In response, Governor Zulum thanked the monarch for the visit and for accepting the chancellorship.

He portrayed the Ooni as a unifying national figure and advocate for cultural preservation and unity, while reaffirming his administration's commitment to sustainable development and lasting peace in Borno.
