Ondo Police Condemn New Year's Eve Attack on Ipele Station

Ondo State Police Command has strongly condemned the armed attack on the Ipele Divisional Police Headquarters in Owo Local Government Area, describing it as a "reprehensible act" against public peace and security.

In a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command firmly clarified that, contrary to reports circulating on social media and some initial claims, no church or religious facility was attacked or damaged during the incident on December 31, 2025.

According to police investigations, at approximately 9:41 p.m., a group of 20 to 30 armed men stormed the station, firing assault rifles, deploying explosives, and setting portions of the building on fire.

The attack caused extensive damage to the facility and destroyed several exhibits, but no casualties were recorded.

A joint security operation involving the police, military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other agencies was immediately deployed to the area, though the assailants had fled before their arrival.

Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal reassured residents that the situation is fully under control, with reinforced patrols and special units in place to forestall any further incidents and track down the perpetrators.

He called on the public to remain calm and to provide useful information that could aid the ongoing investigation.

The incident, occurring on New Year's Eve amid crossover church services across the state, had sparked widespread concern and misinformation in the community.
