North-Central APC Forum Rejects Calls for Nyesom Wike’s Resignation

The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has firmly rejected demands for the resignation or removal of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, warning that such calls could undermine ongoing development in the territory.

In a statement issued on Monday by its Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, the forum described Wike's performance as instrumental in accelerating infrastructure projects and transforming the FCT since he assumed office.

It emphasized that the FCT is part of the North-Central geopolitical zone and that the minister's contributions align with President Bola Tinubu's focus on national progress.

The statement comes in response to recent criticisms, including from APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru, who urged Wike to resign and concentrate on Rivers State politics amid tensions involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Other groups, such as the Ijaw National Congress (INC) West African Chapter, have called for Wike's redeployment to the Ministry of the Niger Delta.

The forum dismissed these demands as attempts to derail the Tinubu administration's gains in the FCT.

"It is wrong for anybody who is considered as a party leader to be calling for Wike’s resignation on the grounds that he is not a member of the APC," Zazzaga stated.

He added that Wike "has added value to this administration, especially when it comes to infrastructural development in the FCT," and noted that "none of them calling for his resignation contributed as much as Wike to the coming of this administration."

The group urged critics, including party leaders, to back off and allow Wike to continue his work, while highlighting his role in the APC's 2023 presidential victory.

It further disclosed prior appreciation conveyed to the minister for key ongoing projects.
