The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted sunshine and hazy weather conditions across the country from Wednesday to Friday.
In its weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, the
agency said the northern region will experience sunny and hazy skies throughout
the forecast period.
NiMet said the southern region is expected to record sunny
skies with patches of clouds, alongside chances of isolated thunderstorms
accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and
Cross River states later in the day.
“For Thursday, sunny and hazy skies are expected over the
northern and central regions, while sunny skies with patches of clouds are
anticipated over the southern region,” the forecast reads.
It added that thunderstorms with light rainfall are expected
in the morning over parts of Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross
River states.
According to the agency, Friday will see sunny and hazy
skies over the northern region in the morning, with dust haze expected during
the afternoon and evening hours.
NiMet said the central region will experience sunny and hazy
conditions, while the southern region will have cloudy skies with sunny
intervals in the morning, alongside chances of isolated thunderstorms and light
rainfall over parts of Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River,
Akwa Ibom, and Rivers states.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts
of Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa states,”
NiMet said.
The agency warned that dust particles are currently in
suspension over the north-central region and urged the public to take necessary
precautions.
NiMet advised people with asthma and other respiratory
conditions to be cautious, while urging motorists to drive carefully during
rainfall.
Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific
weather reports from NiMet for effective operational planning.
The agency urged residents to stay informed through regular
weather updates from the agency.
