Troops from the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP), have successfully thwarted an attempted bandit attack on communities in Plateau State, neutralising five bandits and recovering arms and ammunition.
According to reliable military sources cited by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the operation took place in the early hours of Thursday as part of the ongoing Operation Peace Shield.
The troops, responding to credible intelligence, set up an ambush along the Dutsen Zaki–Odare Forest axis in Wase Local Government Area, where the bandits were reportedly gathering to launch assaults on nearby communities.
A fierce firefight ensued, during which the soldiers neutralised five bandits. The remaining assailants fled into the forest, many believed to be carrying gunshot wounds.
The operation highlights the continued efforts by security forces to curb banditry and insurgency in Plateau State, a region that has faced persistent security challenges.
Military authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to aid ongoing operations aimed at restoring lasting peace.
This latest success comes amid heightened military activities in the North-Central zone to protect lives and property during the festive season and beyond.
