Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has officially tendered his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending months of speculation about his political future.
In a resignation letter dated December 29, 2025, addressed to the Ward Chairman of the PDP in Ampang West Ward, Mangu Local Government Area, Governor Mutfwang formally notified the party of his immediate exit.
The letter reads in part:
“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the PDP with immediate effect. “I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process. I acknowledge the support of party leaders, members, and supporters at all levels during my time in the party, and I remain grateful for the trust reposed in me.
“Given the realities of the moment and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and service delivery, I am compelled to seek an alternative political platform.”
The letter, signed by Governor Mutfwang and marked as received by the ward chairman on December 30, 2025, puts an end to earlier denials by PDP officials in the state, who had insisted that no formal resignation had been submitted.
The development confirms widespread reports in December 2025 that Governor Mutfwang had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), following announcements by the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and Plateau-born APC stalwart, Nentawe Yilwatda.
Sources within the governor’s circle say the move was driven by the need for political stability, enhanced federal support for security and development projects in Plateau State, and alignment with the current administration at the centre.
While Governor Mutfwang is yet to publicly declare his new party affiliation, the resignation from the PDP clears the legal and procedural pathway for a formal defection to the APC, widely expected in the coming days.
The exit deals another blow to the already crisis-ridden PDP, further weakening the main opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
