Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has urged Nigeria to intensify airstrikes as a key strategy in the fight against terrorism.
In a statement shared on his verified X account on Thursday, Sani emphasized the need for expanded military operations targeting terrorist groups nationwide. His comments come against the backdrop of an ongoing Senate debate regarding recent United States airstrikes on terrorist enclaves in Nigeria's northwest region.
Sani described the Senate's discussion as a reflection of Nigeria's democratic values. He argued that the ideal resolution would be to endorse the existing Nigeria-US counter-terrorism partnership and advocate for additional airstrikes wherever terrorists are operating.
“Our Air Force needs that partnership to achieve the total eradication of terrorists from our country,” Sani stated. The call follows earlier US military actions announced by President Donald Trump on Christmas Day, which targeted terrorist hideouts.
Sani has consistently supported such collaborative efforts in recent months, viewing them as essential to decisively weakening insurgent threats while stressing that Nigeria must leverage international support to complement its own capabilities.
