The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has condemned recent attacks on communities in Agwara and Borgu Local Government Areas of Niger State, which left at least 42 people dead and several others abducted, including women and children.
Describing the attacks as “gruesome, senseless, barbaric and utterly unacceptable,” Yilwatda said they represent a direct assault on Nigeria’s peace and unity.
In a statement on Monday, he expressed concern over the violence in areas such as Kasuwan Daji and Kaima, noting reports of killings, market and home burnings, destruction of places of worship, and the abduction of pupils from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri.
Yilwatda extended sympathy to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, the Niger State Government, and the families of the victims.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his prompt response, noting that the President had directed the Minister of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, and the DSS Director-General to apprehend the perpetrators and rescue the abducted victims.
According to intelligence reports, the attackers are suspected terrorists fleeing military pressure in Sokoto and Zamfara States. Yilwatda emphasized that Nigeria’s security agencies remain alert and responsive.
He called on citizens to provide credible information to security forces and urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to work with authorities to restore peace.
“The forces of terror will not defeat our collective resolve. Nigeria will prevail,” he said.
