The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), as part of the Joint Task Force under Operation HADIN KAI, carried out a successful coordinated air interdiction mission targeting terrorist positions at Abbagajiri in the infamous Timbuktu Triangle on January 8, 2026.
The operation was triggered by reliable, multi-source intelligence that pinpointed active terrorist presence, including fortified structures and hidden logistics hubs used by insurgents in the remote area of Borno State.
NAF aircraft, combining advanced surveillance with precision-guided strikes, engaged and destroyed the identified targets, significantly disrupting terrorist operations.
According to a statement released on January 10, 2026, by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, the mission was carefully planned to degrade terrorist capabilities, eliminate safe havens, and prepare the ground for follow-on advances by surface forces all while strictly following rules of engagement to safeguard civilians.
The strikes proved highly effective, as subsequent movements by ground troops into Abbagajiri confirmed the destruction of key terrorist infrastructure and the neutralization of armed fighters who attempted to regroup after the initial attacks.
Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, the Chief of the Air Staff, hailed the mission as a clear demonstration of the NAF's determination to control the skies and provide decisive, targeted air support to joint operations.
He stressed that such intelligence-driven air campaigns would continue relentlessly, underscoring the force's commitment to supporting ground troops and restoring lasting security in Nigeria's northeast.
This latest success highlights the growing synergy between air and land forces in Operation HADIN KAI, as the military intensifies efforts to dismantle remaining terrorist networks in the Timbuktu Triangle, a notorious hotspot long exploited by insurgents for concealment and planning attacks.
