Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has commissioned a 1000KVA solar electricity project in Bende Federal Constituency, Abia State, to permanently address long-standing power supply challenges in rural communities.
Announcing the milestone on January 10, 2026, Kalu described the event as a moment of fulfillment, marking the successful completion of the second phase of his clean energy initiative through solar farms.
The first phase was commissioned in 2022.Despite various challenges during implementation, the Deputy Speaker said perseverance paid off, delivering a sustainable solution for the people.
The project includes over 1,500 solar panels (500 watts each), step-up and step-down transformers, and durable lithium battery systems with a lifespan of up to 25 years, ensuring reliable and long-term power generation.
Kalu highlighted the immediate benefits for farmers, small business owners, and the wider community, noting improved productivity, economic growth, and better quality of life.
He expressed gratitude to his constituents for their patience, support, and prayers, while reaffirming his unwavering commitment to delivering democratic dividends and raising living standards in Bende and beyond.
