Make Peace with Wike: Borno PDP Elders Urge Makinde, Mohammed

Elders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Borno State have called on Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed to reconcile with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in the interest of party unity.

The appeal was contained in a statement issued on Thursday, January 2, 2026, by the Borno PDP Elders Forum, signed by its Chairman, Alhaji Musa Inuwa Kubo.

The elders described the ongoing rift between the governors and Wike as a major distraction that is weakening the opposition party ahead of future elections.

They urged Makinde and Mohammed, who are prominent figures in the PDP and have been vocal critics of Wike's influence within the party, to extend an olive branch and resolve their differences amicably.

“Governor Seyi Makinde and Governor Bala Mohammed are respected leaders in our great party. We appeal to them to make peace with Barrister Nyesom Wike for the sake of PDP’s survival and progress,” the statement read.

The Borno elders emphasised that internal harmony is crucial for the PDP to present a strong, united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

They praised Wike’s contributions to the party, particularly his role in past electoral successes, and noted that no single individual should be allowed to fracture the PDP.

The call comes amid persistent tensions within the PDP, especially following the 2023 presidential primaries and subsequent defections, including Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s recent move to the APC.

Political observers see the intervention by Borno elders as part of broader efforts by party stakeholders to heal divisions and reposition the PDP as a credible opposition ahead of 2027.
