Anambra Govt Rejects Bianca Ojukwu’s Chieftaincy Title as Fake Fingered by Impostor

The Anambra State Government has rejected the chieftaincy title ‘Anyanwu N’Awalu Ora’ recently conferred on Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, declaring it invalid and bestowed by an unrecognised individual.

In a strongly worded statement issued on January 1, 2026, the government described Chief Austin Ndigwe, who purportedly awarded the title during the Igu Aro Cultural Festival in Awka, as an “impostor” with no authority to act as a traditional ruler.

The statement emphasised that the only recognised traditional ruler of Awka is HRH Obi Gibson Nwabueze Nwosu (Eze Uzu II), a veteran who served as second-in-command in the Biafran Air Force and went into exile with the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

It noted that Nwosu previously conferred the title of Omenife Awka on President Bola Tinubu in 2004.

The government accused Ndigwe of usurping ceremonial functions reserved for the authentic monarch, calling the act unacceptable and an insult to Awka traditions.

While acknowledging that Bianca Ojukwu widow of the late Biafran leader is deserving of honours from legitimate institutions, the statement insisted: “It cannot be a vain or fake chieftaincy title from an impostor or fake traditional ruler like Mr. Ndigwe.”

The title is therefore “fake and not recognised under Anambra culture, tradition, or law,” and Ojukwu was urged to desist from using it.

The controversy arose after Ojukwu’s social media posts announcing the honour caused confusion, particularly within the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The government vowed to take lawful steps to protect the state’s traditional institutions.
