The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has disciplined 19 officers for gross misconduct throughout 2025, following recommendations from the Lagos State Civil Service Commission (CSC).
Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, disclosed that five officers were dismissed, nine were demoted in rank, and the remaining five received severe warning letters.
Bakare-Oki emphasized the agency's robust internal mechanisms to curb excesses among field officers, highlighting an enhanced surveillance unit that conducts daily monitoring.
"Our surveillance officers operate undercover, like mystery shoppers, to identify any personnel violating established guidelines," he explained.
He added that the authority acts swiftly on public complaints, conducting thorough investigations to verify allegations before imposing penalties.
"If our officers are found culpable, they are promptly punished we have numerous cases to show for this commitment," Bakare-Oki stated.
The LASTMA chief reaffirmed the agency's dedication to ensuring free traffic flow across Lagos, particularly for motorists, while facilitating the seamless movement of goods and people throughout the state.
