The Kwara State House of Assembly has approved the 2026 Appropriation Bill, setting the state's total budget at ₦656.5 billion.
This represents an upward adjustment of ₦10.5 billion from the initial ₦646 billion (precisely ₦644,004,816,893) proposal presented by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in December 2025.The assembly passed the bill during plenary on Thursday, January 30, 2026, after legislative scrutiny and deliberations.
The increase is reportedly earmarked for additional development projects, infrastructure enhancements, and priorities aligned with ongoing state initiatives.Governor AbdulRazaq's original proposal, tagged as a "Budget of Consolidation and Sustained Growth," allocated approximately 66% to capital expenditure, focusing on completing ongoing projects, bolstering security, supporting workers' welfare, and investing in key sectors such as education, health, agriculture, and technology. Recurrent spending covered the remainder, including salary adjustments like the new Teachers Salary Allowance and support for vulnerable groups.
The assembly's amendment reflects lawmakers' input to expand fiscal commitments for accelerated development across the three senatorial districts. Reports indicate the budget emphasizes project continuity, economic diversification, and improved public services amid Nigeria's broader fiscal challenges.
While the bill has now been passed by the legislature, it awaits the governor's assent to become law and guide implementation in the 2026 fiscal year.
