The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) to extend the timetable for the local government elections scheduled for October 2026.
State Chairman, Hon. Muhammed Sanni Gambo, made the demand following a joint meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) and State Executive Committee (SEC) at the party secretariat in Lokoja.
Gambo stated that the PDP intends to fully participate in the polls, emphasising that the majority of the state's citizens reside in rural areas and stand to benefit most from effective grassroots governance.
He described the abrupt closure of candidate nomination forms as unacceptable, suggesting it appears designed to exclude the opposition party, and urged KOSIEC to grant an extension to ensure a level playing field.
“The PDP is confident of a decisive victory,” Gambo added, highlighting the party's past achievements in local government administration, including robust development, infrastructure projects, and improved welfare for citizens.
The chairman also announced plans to set up reconciliation committees to resolve internal grievances, foster unity, and bring back members who had left the party.
Reaffirming his leadership following a Federal High Court judgment that validated his election as state chairman, Gambo called on all stakeholders, women, youths, and grassroots members to rally behind the party ahead of the council elections.
He further assured Kogi residents that the PDP is committed to restoring the state's "lost glory" through rapid socio-economic development, recalling the "good old days" under previous PDP administrations when infrastructure, healthcare, employment, and general welfare were prioritised.
