Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has rejected allegations of missing public funds linked to his ministry, stating that the ₦128 billion in question relates to irregularities identified in a 2022 audit report well before his appointment in August 2023.
The response comes after the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) urged President Bola Tinubu to direct the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and anti-corruption agencies to probe claims that over ₦128 billion was missing or diverted from the Ministry of Power and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (NBET).
In a statement issued by his Media Aide, Bolaji Tunji, Adelabu clarified that the audit findings pertain exclusively to the 2022 financial year, under the previous administration.
“The issues raised have no bearing on the operations or financial activities of the Ministry under the current administration,” the statement read.
While welcoming any legitimate investigation into past issues, the minister reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, accountability, and due process, qualities he has upheld throughout his career in both public and private sectors.
The ministry pledged full cooperation with efforts to address legacy challenges in the power sector while focusing on delivering reliable electricity to Nigerians.
