IPOB Fraudsters, Lawyers Cashing out From Nnamdi Kanu’s Detention – Joe Igbokwe

Prominent social media commentator and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Joe Igbokwe has leveled serious allegations against certain individuals he claims are exploiting the prolonged detention of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu for personal financial gain.

In a Facebook post shared on Monday night, Igbokwe described the situation as a "business" opportunity for some unscrupulous actors in the Southeast.

“I have noticed that some unrepentant scammers in Igboland, IPOB fraudsters and some charge and bail lawyers are using the detention of Nnamdi Kanu to cash out,” Igbokwe wrote.

“It has become a business. Even content creators are not left out,” he added, suggesting that a range of people, including self-styled IPOB supporters, opportunistic lawyers known for quick "charge and bail" cases, and online influencers are allegedly soliciting or extorting funds from sympathizers under the pretext of supporting Kanu's legal battles or release efforts.

The claims come amid Kanu's continued incarceration following his life imprisonment sentencing by the Federal High Court in Abuja on November 20, 2025, after conviction on seven counts of terrorism-related charges.

Igbokwe's post highlights broader frustrations within political and social circles over the handling of the IPOB matter, portraying the detention not only as a security and legal issue but also as a magnet for alleged fraud and profiteering.

No specific names or evidence were provided in the public statement to substantiate the accusations against named individuals or groups.

The remarks have sparked renewed online debate about trust within pro-Biafra advocacy circles and the integrity of those claiming to champion Kanu's cause.

This is not the first time Igbokwe, a vocal critic of IPOB activities, has commented on developments surrounding Kanu and the separatist movement.

His latest intervention adds to the polarized discourse on the implications of Kanu's case for Southeast stability and national unity.
