House of Reps Condemns Delay in $25m FIFA-CAF Grants Probe

A Nigerian lawmaker has sharply criticized the House of Representatives for the prolonged delay in investigating the alleged misuse of more than $25 million in development grants disbursed to the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) by FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) between 2015 and 2025.

Over two months after the House passed a resolution in October 2025 to launch the probe, the Committee on Sports has yet to present any report, summon witnesses, or release findings.

The resolution stemmed from a motion of urgent public importance moved by Hon. Adedayo Adesola (Apapa Federal Constituency, Lagos State) and co-sponsored by Hon. Felix Nwaeke (Rivers State).

Titled “Motion to stop further misuse of FIFA and CAF grants by Nigerian Football Federation,” it accused the NFF of poor stewardship of the funds, which were meant for grassroots development, youth academies, infrastructure upgrades, and administrative improvements.

Despite receiving these substantial international grants, lawmakers noted a lack of visible progress in Nigerian football, contributing to the consistent underperformance of national teams in recent competitions.

The House had directed the formation of a special investigative panel to scrutinize all receipts, expenditures, and project outcomes.

The continued silence and inaction have sparked growing frustration among stakeholders, who argue that the delay undermines transparency, accountability, and efforts to revive Nigerian football.

Public calls for swift action continue to mount as concerns over financial management at the NFF persist.

Observers now expect the House Committee on Sports to urgently conclude the investigation and table its report without further postponement.
