Governor Yusuf Presents N25m to Families of Fallen Soldiers, Vigilante

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has disbursed a total of ₦25 million to support the families of five security personnel four soldiers and one civilian vigilante who lost their lives while repelling a bandit incursion in Shanono Local Government Area.

The fallen heroes made the supreme sacrifice during a fierce clash with bandits, in which Joint Task Force (JTF) troops neutralised more than a dozen criminals.

The governor had previously visited affected communities in Shanono and Tsanyawa, and met with frontline troops to boost morale following the deadly confrontation.

Represented by the Director General of Special Services at Government House, Major General Sani Mohammed (rtd), Yusuf presented cheques of ₦5 million each to the bereaved families during a ceremony at the Headquarters of 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Bukavu Barracks, Kano, on Thursday, January 29, 2026.

The governor expressed deep regret over the losses, describing the deceased as "superheroes" whose bravery in defending the nation and humanity would never be forgotten.

He acknowledged that no amount could fully compensate the families but said the gesture honoured their loved ones' sacrifices and aimed to provide immediate support.

Speaking on behalf of the families, Lance Corporal Yusuf Jibril (representing the bereaved) thanked Governor Yusuf and all involved, pledging to use the funds judiciously for the welfare of the widows, children, and relatives.
