Governor Mbah Holds Strategic Meeting to Reposition Igbos in Nigeria political space

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, joined elder statesman and former Governor of old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo, and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in a closed-door meeting at Nwobodo's country home in Amechi Awkunanaw, Enugu, to discuss strategies for enhancing the Igbo people's role in Nigeria's national politics.

The high-level consultation, held amid ongoing political realignments in preparation for the 2027 general elections, focused on fostering unity among South-East leaders and ensuring a more defined and influential position for the Igbo in the country's power structure.

Speaking to journalists afterward, Chief Nwobodo described the engagement as consultative and reflective, aimed at resolving ambiguities about the Igbo's place in national affairs.

He stressed the importance of a clearly respected role for the Igbo in Nigeria's political framework.Governor Mbah underscored the need to avoid internal fragmentation, noting that Nigeria was founded on a tripod with the Igbo as one essential leg.

"It is extremely important that we continue to play a very critical role in our polity," he said, advocating for a unified, strategic approach over divided politics.

Senator Kalu echoed these sentiments, emphasizing efforts to keep the Igbo relevant and strategically positioned, with plans to broaden the discussions to include more leaders for wider consensus.

The meeting signals renewed determination among South-East stakeholders to build a cohesive front and secure greater influence in Nigeria's evolving political landscape.
