Destiny Boy, the Nigerian singer, has passed away at the age of 22.
News of his sudden passing broke on Sunday after
distressing footage,
showing his body being transported to a mortuary, circulated widely on social
media. The clips sparked an outpouring of grief and speculation about the cause
of his death.
In one video, the young artiste is seen lying in the back of
a vehicle, with cotton wool placed in his nostrils and ears. Unconfirmed
reports from sources close to the scene stated that he had vomited blood before
his death.
An attempt to clarify the circumstances was made in a
separate video by
an unidentified associate. The man, appearing emotional, explained that Destiny
Boy had been battling a private health issue before his demise.
“God, I want to do this video before people start saying
rubbish about Destiny Boy’s cause of death. We all came to this life to write
our own history. May God rest his soul. Destiny was nursing a health issue in
his body before he died. We tried for him, but he didn’t make it,” he said.
Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy ventured into music at a
young age and is well known for his Fuji-infused style of music.
He began his career at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, where he
worked as a backup dancer for the popular Nigerian Fuji musician Pasuma.
The singer began to gain prominence after releasing his Fuji
cover of Davido’s ‘If’ in 2019, which attracted massive traction on social
media.
He also delivered covers of songs by artistes like Tekno,
2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor.
Destiny Boy also released songs such as ‘Lamba’, ‘One
Transaction’, ‘Gbese’, ‘Billion Dollar’, ‘Mio Gbonkankan’ and ‘Lowkey’.
The singer and Iremide, his partner, welcomed their
first child together in November 2024.
