Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to move forward and recover lost ground, saying he has the resilience to deliver on the mandate given to him by the people of the state.
Fubara made the call on Friday while swearing in five new special advisers at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
Those sworn in are Eloka Tasie-Amadi, Professor Peter Medee, Emmanuel Frank Fubara, Victor Ekaro and Darlington Orji.
The governor urged the appointees to work collectively and remain committed to the vision of his administration to ensure effective and people-centred governance.
He said the appointments were aimed at strengthening teamwork within government and ensuring that the machinery of governance continues to function smoothly and efficiently.
Fubara said, “So what we’re doing this afternoon is bringing in some persons on board to ensure that the wheels of governance continue to roll smoothly in our state.”
The governor noted that the advisers were selected because they were familiar with the philosophy and direction of his administration, having previously worked with him in different capacities.
According to him, “I believe that these appointees are not new faces. They’ve been with us, they’ve worked with us.
“They understand the philosophy of this administration and it will not be a problem following and ensuring that our goals are achieved.”
Fubara said effective governance requires collective effort, discipline and shared responsibility, and cautioned the advisers against complacency.
He said, “So my charge is not much because you already know what we have come to do. It is not pleasure, it is work. And every one of you here that has been assigned some responsibility in time past has always proven yourselves/ I’m very sure that this time around it won’t be different,”
The governor added that the appointments were not ceremonial but an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to governance and service delivery in the state.
He said, “It’s a rare opportunity. Don’t let us down. We will start to work for Rivers people. Our social agreement with Rivers people is to work. And that work, it is what we have come to do,”
Fubara reaffirmed that his administration remains focused on purposeful leadership and effective service delivery, expressing confidence that the new advisers would work as a team to implement the government’s vision for the state.
The governor had on Thursday approved the appointment of five special advisers, including two former commissioners who served under his administration.
The development came barely 72 hours after the governor carried out a minor cabinet reshuffle with the redeployment of the Commissioner for Sports, Barr. Christopher Green, to the Ministry of Justice as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.
