Fubara Accused of Denying Stadium Access to Tinubu's Renewed Hope Ambassadors

The political rift in Rivers State deepened today as Governor Siminalayi Fubara was accused of blocking access to the Yakubu Gowon Stadium (Elekahia) for the inauguration of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA), a grassroots group backing President Bola Tinubu's 2027 re-election.

Desmond Akawor, Rivers State RHA Coordinator and former Nigerian Ambassador, made the allegation during the event, which was relocated to the crowded Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic in Rumuola.

"Governor Fubara denied us the use of the stadium for the inauguration of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Rivers State," Akawor stated, before apologizing for the "mammoth crowd" congestion at the alternative venue.

The RHA, launched by President Tinubu on November 25, 2025, held the ceremony to swear in senatorial and local government coordinators. Reports suggest the stadium was made unavailable due to sudden scaffolding and construction materials placed there, described by officials as an "ongoing building project", a claim met with skepticism as no prior urgent work was evident.

The gathering featured strong support from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and his allies, highlighting ongoing tensions between Wike loyalists and the Fubara administration.

No official comment has come from the Rivers State Government on the accusations.
