The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Kebbi State, has apprehended 34 road traffic offenders during a special night patrol carried out to enforce traffic regulations and improve safety on major roads across the state.
The Deputy Corps Commander, DCC, of the FRSC, Musa Galadima, disclosed this on Friday in Birnin Kebbi, saying the operation targeted persistent traffic violations, especially during night hours.
According to him, the exercise led to the arrest of 34 vehicles, comprising 24 motorcycles, seven cars and three tricycles. The offenders were booked for various infractions, including route violations and operating vehicles without functional lights.
Galadima explained that the night patrol was part of the corps’ statutory responsibility to ensure sanity and safety on the highways, noting that the intervention became necessary due to the increasing cases of traffic violations in the state.
He said many lives had been lost, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries as a result of reckless driving and disregard for traffic regulations.
“This informed our decision to embark on a special night patrol to nip the situation in the bud,” he said.
The FRSC official also commended Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, for his sustained logistical support to the corps, particularly the prompt removal of roadside obstructions and illegal pavements upon assuming office.
Galadima appealed to motorists and other road users to cooperate with the FRSC and adhere strictly to traffic laws in order to reduce road traffic crashes and ensure safer roads across the state.
