Devastating Fire Destroys Filling Station, Trucks, Furniture Showroom in Adamawa

A massive fire outbreak sparked by an explosion involving a fuel-laden tanker has completely razed a filling station in Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State, destroying several trucks, vehicles, and an adjacent furniture showroom.

The incident took place late Thursday night, around 11:00 p.m. on January 16, 2026, in the heart of Song township.

Residents reported a powerful explosion that sent flames spreading rapidly across the filling station premises, engulfing everything in its path and forcing people to flee the area in panic.

The fire consumed multiple trucks and other valuable assets at the filling station before spreading to a nearby furniture house, resulting in significant property losses.

Thankfully, no lives were lost, largely due to the swift response of community members who worked together to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.

The Chairman of Song Local Government Area, Idris Yahaya, visited the scene to commiserate with the affected business owners.

“This is a difficult moment for our community and the families involved. We feel your pain and stand with you in this time of loss,” the chairman said, promising support to aid recovery efforts.

The fire has been attributed to the tanker explosion, once again raising serious concerns about safety protocols, inadequate regulation, and the common practice of siting filling stations close to commercial and residential zones in Nigeria.

In separate but related incidents across Adamawa during the same period, fires also destroyed a rented residential building in Vuniklang community (near Yola) and a house in the Badarawo area of Jimeta, Yola North.

Household items and structures were lost in both cases, but no casualties were recorded.Authorities are yet to provide a full assessment of the damages or conclude investigations.

However, the cluster of fires has heightened public awareness of heightened fire risks during the dry season, with calls for stricter safety measures in fuel handling, storage, and electrical usage across the state.
