Dangote Petroleum Refinery has increased the ex-depot (gantry) price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from N699 per litre to N799 per litre, effective immediately after the festive period.
The refinery announced the adjustment in a statement on Monday, January 27, 2026, explaining that the move realigns prices to sustainable levels to ensure long-term market stability and affordability now that the holiday season has ended.
As a result of the gantry price hike, retail partner MRS Oil Nigeria will now dispense petrol at N839 per litre across its filling stations nationwide.
“With the festive period concluded, PMS prices have been modestly realigned to sustainable levels to support long-term market stability and affordability,” the refinery stated.
“Under the current alignment, the PMS gantry price is N799 per litre, while MRS retail outlets are selling at N839 per litre.”
The price increase follows a period of lower rates during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, when Dangote had reduced the gantry price to N699 per litre (with MRS selling at around N739–N799 in some reports) to ease consumer burden amid high living costs.
This latest adjustment reflects ongoing volatility in global crude oil markets and the need to maintain operational viability for domestic refining.
Dangote Refinery, Africa's largest single-train refinery, has positioned itself as a key player in reducing Nigeria's reliance on imported petrol since commencing full production.
The development is likely to impact transportation costs, inflation, and household expenses, as petrol remains a major driver of the Nigerian economy.
Motorists and businesses are advised to expect the new pump price at MRS stations, with potential ripple effects on other marketers depending on their sourcing.
No immediate comments were available from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) or the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) on the broader market implications.
The move comes as Nigeria continues efforts to achieve full deregulation and self-sufficiency in petroleum products through local refining.
