A Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, granted an interim order forfeiting 57 properties valued at N213,234,120,000 to the Federal Government.
The assets are allegedly connected to former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), and two of his sons, Abdulaziz Malami and Abiru-Rahman Malami.Justice Emeka Nwite issued the order on an ex-parte application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), through its counsel Ekele Iheanacho (SAN).
The judge ruled that the properties are reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities.Located in Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, and Kebbi States, the properties include luxury hotels, university buildings, an agro-allied factory, pharmacy, supermarket, schools, filling stations, shops, duplexes, and large land plots.
Examples of the seized assets include:
A luxury duplex on Amazon Street, Maitama, Abuja, bought in 2022 for N500 million (current value: N5.95 billion).
A large hotel building in Garki, Abuja (formerly Harmonia Hotels), purchased in 2018 for N7 billion.
Meethaq Hotels in Jabi, Abuja (53 rooms/suites), acquired in 2020 for N1.15 billion (current value: N8.4 billion).
Meethaq Hotels on Rhine Street, Maitama (15 rooms), bought in 2018 for N430 million (current value: N12.95 billion).
The judge ordered the EFCC to publish the interim forfeiture notice in a national newspaper, allowing interested parties 14 days to show cause why the properties should not be permanently forfeited.
The case was adjourned to January 27, 2026.This action follows ongoing money laundering charges against Malami, his wife, and one son involving N8.7 billion before the same court.
