A Kano State High Court has confirmed the appointment of Hon. Abdullahi Zubairu Abiya as the Acting State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State.
The court also upheld the suspension of the former State Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, and barred him from interfering in the party’s affairs until the main case is decided.
The judge fixed January 19 for the hearing of the suit filed by the NNPP Dawakin Tofa Local Government Executive Committee against Dungurawa.
The case followed a legal challenge to Dungurawa’s continued claim to the chairmanship after the party’s state executive suspended him.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Executive Committee of the NNPP, during an emergency meeting at the party secretariat in Kano, confirmed Abiya’s appointment as Acting State Chairman.
The committee said the decision came after Dungurawa was removed from office.
Dungurawa is known to be aligned with the party’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The court ordered all parties to maintain the status quo and directed Dungurawa to stop presenting himself as chairman or taking any action that could disrupt the party’s activities in Kano State until the case is heard and determined.
