Renowned Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Adesanya, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate (also called KWAM1), has formally petitioned Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, alleging deliberate attempts to exclude him and other eligible princes from the nomination process for the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland.
In a petition dated January 8, 2026, written through his legal representative, Wahab K. Shittu, SAN, and addressed to the Ogun State Executive Council via the governor, K1 urged swift intervention to ensure the process adheres strictly to established laws, due process, fairness, and transparency.
The petition highlights that the Fusengbuwa Ruling House next in line to produce the candidate has introduced unauthorized procedures, including requirements for candidates to purchase nomination forms and appear before a screening panel.
These steps, the musician claims, lack any basis in the Chieftaincy Declaration or the Obas and Chiefs Laws of Ogun State, 2021.
The controversy stems from a notice issued by Prince Adeleye Lateef Ademuyiwa, the ruling house's Public Relations Officer, announcing a nomination exercise scheduled for Monday, January 12, 2026, at the Bisrod Event Centre in Ijebu-Ode.
Delegates for the process were to be selected at a prior meeting on January 10, 2026.This follows an earlier directive from the Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, dated January 6, 2026 (Ref: IOLG/584/11/34), instructing the ruling house to convene a statutory family meeting within 14 days to nominate candidates for the vacant paramount stool without mentioning any screening or delegate system.
K1's petition describes these additional requirements as inconsistent with due process and warns they could disenfranchise legitimate members of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, potentially leading to avoidable disputes.
It stresses that every qualified family member has the right to participate freely, without any faction monopolizing the process.
The Fuji icon, who has long asserted his eligibility through lineage to the Jadiara Royal House within the broader Fusengbuwa Ruling House, had previously withdrawn a court challenge at the Ogun State High Court in Ijebu-Ode, where he contested the ruling house's denial of his bona fide membership.
The Awujale stool has remained vacant since the passing of the revered Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona in July 2025, after a remarkable 65-year reign.
The succession process has drawn significant public attention, with over 60 aspirants reportedly expressing interest, amid ongoing debates over eligibility and adherence to tradition and law.
The petition concludes with a strong appeal to Governor Abiodun to act promptly to uphold justice, adding that any unlawful attempt to bar K1 from participating would be vigorously challenged.
No immediate response has been reported from the Ogun State Government, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, or other parties involved as the nomination date approaches.
