Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar (Waziri Adamawa) paid a condolence visit to former Bayelsa State Governor Senator Henry Seriake Dickson following the sudden death of Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
The late Senator Ewhrudjakpo, aged 60, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025, after collapsing in his office at the Government House, Yenagoa.
He was confirmed dead at the Federal Medical Centre despite efforts to revive him.In a statement, Dickson (HSD) described Atiku’s visit accompanied by leaders including Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri, Senator Ehigie Uzamere, and others as a meaningful show of solidarity.
Highlights from the visit include:Atiku spoke highly of the late deputy governor’s character, consistency, and loyalty, qualities he came to appreciate partly through Dickson.
Prayers were offered for the repose of Ewhrudjakpo’s soul, a minute of silence observed, and Atiku prayed for strength for the family, Dickson, and all grieving the “irreparable loss.”
Dickson thanked Atiku for making time despite his busy schedule, pledged to pass on the condolences to the family, and promised to share burial details for those wishing to attend.
He described Ewhrudjakpo as a rare “loyal, hardworking, and dependable ally” in Nigerian politics, where loyalty is scarce, deepening the personal, familial, and state-level sense of loss.
The visit, along with tributes from other prominent figures, reminded Dickson that the grief is shared across the nation.
Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo served as Deputy Governor under Governor Douye Diri since 2020, having previously represented Bayelsa West in the Senate and held key positions under Dickson’s administration.
He was widely respected for his contributions to infrastructure and conflict resolution.Burial arrangements are yet to be announced.
The loss continues to draw condolences from across political divides, including President Bola Tinubu and former President Goodluck Jonathan.
This remains a period of national mourning for Bayelsa State.
