Troops of the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, based in Lokoja, achieved significant successes on Saturday, January 3, 2026, through coordinated patrols and ambush operations in Kabba Bunu and Yagba West Local Government Areas.
According to a statement issued by Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, the operations were triggered by credible intelligence regarding bandit movements.
In the first incident, troops received information about bandits moving from the Adankolo area toward Agbadu Bunu in Kabba Bunu LGA.
They quickly deployed and set up an ambush at a known crossing point. When the bandits encountered the troops, a firefight ensued, resulting in two bandits being neutralized.
The soldiers recovered one AK-47 rifle.In a separate but related operation, additional intelligence indicated bandit activity near Saminaka village in Yagba West LGA.
Troops, supported by local vigilantes, patrolled the village and surrounding forests. Finding the village deserted, they advanced into the forested areas and along routes toward the Saminaka Sabo Rijiya road, where they engaged an unspecified number of bandits.
During this patrol, troops apprehended a suspected logistics supplier for the bandits, Sunday Adedotun, a resident of Odo Eri village in Yagba West LGA.
He was caught on a farmland in Saminaka village, where he claimed to be helping farmers transport harvested produce. Recovered items included cartons of energy drinks, soft drinks, bottled water, and farm produce.
Adedotun is currently in custody and under investigation.Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, Commander of the 12 Brigade, praised the troops for their professionalism, courage, and swift response to intelligence.
He emphasized their dedication and assured residents that the brigade would maintain aggressive patrols, ambushes, and intelligence-driven operations to prevent criminal elements from operating freely in the region.
