APC Chairman to State Coordinators: “Register Every Member or Be Removed

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has issued a strong directive to state coordinators overseeing the party's nationwide electronic membership registration exercise: ensure every single member is registered, or risk being replaced.

Speaking during a crucial meeting with all State Registration Coordinators at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, Professor Yilwatda emphasized that the ongoing exercise the first fully electronic membership registration by any major political party in Nigeria is a critical strategic reform aimed at building a credible, verifiable, and real-time database.

This initiative, he said, will boost internal democracy, eliminate fraud, enhance mobilization, and strengthen the party's electoral performance.Coordinators, primarily the State Organising Secretaries (except in cases where they were not trained), were reminded that their role is far from ceremonial.

"If any Coordinator does not get all members registered in his or her state, we will drop you and appoint another person," Professor Yilwatda warned bluntly.

"The position you occupy is an opportunity to make the party better."He described coordinators and state party structures as the true "foot soldiers" of the APC, stressing that elections are won or lost at the grassroots from wards and local governments to senatorial districts and states not at the national level.

The chairman also urged full cooperation from State Party Chairmen to ensure the process runs smoothly.

In a firm message against any form of exclusion, Professor Yilwatda declared: "No Chairman, no Coordinator, and not even a Governor has the power to stop any party member from being registered. No one must be disenfranchised."

He condemned sharp practices that could block eligible members and warned that any State Executive Committee member who fails to register by the January 30, 2026 deadline will be removed from office, as the National Executive Committee (NEC) holds constitutional authority to enforce compliance.

To accelerate progress and address logistical challenges, the chairman instructed coordinators to use Android phones where tablets are unavailable and to avoid unnecessary costs for state governments.

He shared that in his home state, officials were recruited locally from wards to simplify operations.Providing an encouraging update, Professor Yilwatda noted that Delta State is currently leading the registration drive, followed closely by Lagos, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Plateau.

He encouraged lagging states to match this momentum and announced a progress review in five days.

Linking the exercise to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader reforms, the chairman stressed the need for accurate data to support national leadership and modernization.

"We must be different from all other parties. We cannot make decisions on faulty premises. This registration must succeed."

In response, the coordinators praised Professor Yilwatda's leadership and pledged total commitment, assuring that party structures would be fully revitalized and the exercise completed successfully before the January 30 deadline.
