Anthony Joshua Bids Final Farewell to Late Friends at Lagos Funeral Home

Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua made a poignant last-minute visit to TOS Funeral Home in Lagos to bid farewell to his close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, whose remains were briefly recalled from the airport for repatriation to the UK.

Sources at TOS Funeral Home revealed that Joshua, accompanied by his mother and a large security detail of around 60 personnel, arrived on Wednesday shortly after his discharge from hospital.

He had insisted that the bodies, already en route to the airport following the fatal car crash, be returned to the facility so he could see his late associates one final time.

The visit lasted approximately 10 minutes. An anonymous official described Joshua as composed, greeting staff calmly before viewing the remains, expressing gratitude, and departing with his mother.

"Yes, he was here with his mother, calm as he greeted everyone," the source said.

"The remains were already out and ready for repatriation, but he insisted we bring them back so he could see his late friends for the last time."

TOS Funeral Home's Chief Executive Director, Debayo TOS, explained the decision to route the remains through Istanbul, Turkey, rather than a direct flight to London.

He cited lengthy British Airways protocols for transporting human remains, which require approvals from UK funeral homes and can take several days.

"Working out papers to move corpses from Lagos to London usually takes days; you have to write to the funeral homes in the UK and get approval," Debayo told reporters at the company's Berger head office.

"In this case, time was very short, so we had to move the bodies through Istanbul to expedite the process."

The two men died in a December 29, 2025, road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, when the Lexus SUV carrying Joshua collided with a stationary truck.

Joshua, seated in the rear, sustained minor injuries and was treated before being released to recuperate at home.

Ghami served as Joshua's long-time strength and conditioning coach, while Ayodele was his personal trainer both described as integral and loyal members of his inner circle.
