Fuji music legend Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, popularly known as KWAM1, has written a second letter to Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, urging the immediate nullification of the January 12, 2026, nomination meeting for the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland.
In the fresh petition dated January 14, 2026, and forwarded through his counsel Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN), KWAM1 described the proceedings conducted by the Fusengbuwa Ruling House as fundamentally flawed, unlawful, and in clear breach of the Ogun State Obas and Chiefs Law 2021.
He accused the ruling house of arbitrarily imposing a delegate system, deploying armed security personnel to physically prevent eligible family members including himself from attending, and thereby disenfranchising rightful participants.
KWAM1 further pointed out that the process contravened the official directive issued on January 6, 2026, by the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Secretary, Oke Adebanjo, which instructed the ruling house to hold a direct statutory family meeting for nominations within 14 days, with no provision for delegates or pre-screening.
This marks KWAM1’s second formal protest on the matter. In an earlier letter dated January 8, 2026, he had already objected to the planned delegate arrangement and the apparent exclusionary approach.
The controversial meeting, held at Bisrod Hotel in Ijebu-Ode and chaired by Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi, reportedly produced 95 aspirants (94 princes and one princess) from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, which is next in rotation to present candidates following the passing of the late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, in July 2025 after reigning for 65 years.
Representatives of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House have strongly rejected KWAM1’s claims, insisting that he is not a member of their family and therefore has no locus to participate in the nomination process.
Prof Fassy Yusuf, Vice Chairman of the ruling house, dismissed the latest petition as baseless and irrelevant to the already concluded exercise.
In his latest appeal, KWAM1 called on Governor Abiodun to declare the January 12 nomination null and void and to order a fresh, transparent, and inclusive nomination process strictly in accordance with the governing law.As of January 16, 2026, the Ogun State Government is yet to issue any official response to the renewed petition.
The succession battle for one of the most revered traditional stools in Yorubaland continues to attract widespread attention amid arguments over family membership, procedural fairness, and adherence to statutory requirements.
