Adekunle Gold has become the first artist to sell out the newly-renovated National Theatre in Lagos.
The ‘Orente’ hitmaker reached the milestone on December 26,
filling the 3,560-seat venue, now renamed the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture
and the Creative Arts.
On Thursday, Adekunle was presented with two plaques — one
recognising the management and record label that organised the concert, and
another honouring him as the first artiste to headline and sell out the
theatre.
“Sometin different management, events and record label.
Record label for Adekunle Gold sold out national Theatre event in Lagos,
Nigeria,” the plaque for the record label reads.
The show featured a unique fusion of classical arrangements
and Afrobeats, with Adekunle performing alongside a full orchestra, delivering
an unforgettable musical experience for fans.
The concert, which had a black tie dress code, had quite a
few surprises.
One of them was Olamide taking the stage to introduce
Adekunle, describing him as a “refined and sophisticated” Afrobeats artiste.
“Ladiesneh and gentlemenSneh, I’m your host for todaySneh.
They call me Baddosneh. I’m here to introduce one of the tiniest, most refined
and sophisticated Afrobeats artists, known for his elegant style and impeccable
finesse — a true embodiment of grandeur and top-tier artistry,” he had said.
“Please join me in welcoming the big fish, AG Baby, Adekunle Gold, also known as Mr Kosoko. Sit back, relax and enjoy good music.”
