The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has abruptly terminated the appointment of Michael Ango as acting Executive Chairman of the FCT Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS).
The sack was announced in a brief statement issued Friday evening by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communication and Social Media.
“The most senior official of the FCT-IRS has also been directed to take over the running of the revenue agency with immediate effect,” the statement said.
No reason was given for the sudden removal.President Bola Tinubu had in August 2024 approved Ango’s appointment as acting chairman, praising his wealth of experience and proven track record in revenue administration, financial management, and organisational leadership.
Ironically, just last month, staff of the FCT-IRS reportedly organised a lavish event themed “A Night with Ango” to honour the acting chairman for what they described as his visionary and exemplary leadership.
