Residents of Dansadau town in Maru Local Government Area expressed their frustration on Wednesday by attacking a state lawmaker, accusing him of neglecting his constituency since his election.
The incident occurred during a visit by Governor Dauda Lawal to the community, which has been plagued by insecurity. The lawmaker, Hon. Kabiru Mikailu, who represents Maru South Constituency in the Zamfara State House of Assembly, was accompanying the governor when the mob descended on him.
Angry residents claimed that Mikailu had failed to visit the area, attend key community events such as Sallah celebrations, or offer support to families affected by recurrent bandit attacks.Security operatives quickly intervened to calm the situation and prevent it from escalating further.
The governor's visit marked a significant effort to address longstanding issues in the troubled town. He flagged off the reconstruction of the over 90-kilometre Dansadau-Gusau road, ordered the rehabilitation of the local General Hospital, and promised solar-powered electricity to enhance living conditions.
Governor Lawal reiterated his administration's dedication to restoring peace, rebuilding infrastructure, and improving welfare in insecurity-affected areas across Zamfara.
During the event, the Emir of Dansadau, Alhaji Garba Muhammad (Sarkin Kudu Dansadau), conferred the chieftaincy title of Garkuwan Dansadau on the governor.
