Troops from the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, operating under the Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP), successfully prevented a bandit attack, eliminating one suspected criminal and seizing weapons and ammunition in Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The intelligence-led operation took place in the early hours of Wednesday in Gwande Community, Monguna District. It formed part of the intensified phase of Operation PEACE SHIELD, designed to secure peaceful Christmas celebrations throughout the operational area.
According to sources, troops received reliable intelligence about bandits gathering to launch an assault on a neighboring community.
In the ensuing confrontation, soldiers engaged the group, compelling the bandits to flee in chaos.One suspect, identified as 35-year-old Mallam Yahuza Abdullahi, was neutralized during the exchange of fire.
Recovered items included one locally fabricated revolver rifle, one fabricated pistol, nine rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, and six cartridges.
Community sources indicated that the neutralized individual belonged to a syndicate responsible for ongoing attacks and terror in Gwande and nearby villages.
Follow-up operations are underway to pursue and apprehend the remaining fleeing members of the group.
