Tinubu Receives Credentials from 21 New Envoys


President Bola Tinubu on Thursday received Letters of Credence from 17 ambassadors and 4 high commissioners at the State House, underscoring Nigeria’s readiness to deepen bilateral ties and tackle shared global challenges through strengthened cooperation.


Speaking at the ceremony held in the Council Chamber, President Tinubu welcomed the diplomats and assured them of his administration’s open-door policy.


“Nigeria values the longstanding friendship and strategic partnerships we enjoy across all regions of the world. Your accreditation today reaffirms the depth of our bilateral ties and our shared commitment to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest,” the President said.


He highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen democratic institutions, implement bold economic reforms, and create an enabling environment for investment, innovation, and sustainable development.


Encouraging deeper engagement in trade, energy, agriculture, education, technology, defence, and cultural exchange, President Tinubu stressed Nigeria’s determination to work with partner nations on pressing issues including security threats, climate change, economic instability, and humanitarian crises.


“As you begin your tenure, I assure you of the fullest cooperation of the Government of Nigeria. My doors are open for constructive engagements, and I trust your time in Nigeria will be productive,” he added.


Ambassador Suzuki Hideo of Japan, who spoke on behalf of the new envoys, described the occasion as “historic and remarkable,” praising President Tinubu’s visionary leadership and bold economic reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s fiscal framework and attracting investment.


“We also commend your recent efforts to strengthen national security through intensified counter-terrorism strategies,” Ambassador Hideo said, adding that Nigeria’s role in promoting economic prosperity and political stability in ECOWAS and across Africa has earned it global recognition as “a beacon of resilience and promise.”

The ceremony marks a significant step in reinforcing Nigeria’s diplomatic relations with countries across Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and the Caribbean.
