Tinubu Inaugurates National Tax Reform Committee

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday formally launched the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC), the powerful body tasked with driving Nigeria’s historic tax reform agenda to a successful conclusion.

The inauguration, held at the Ministry of Finance headquarters in Abuja, was witnessed by the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, and top government officials and private-sector leaders.

Led by renowned technocrat Mr. Taiwo Joseph Tegbe as Chairman and directly supervised by the Finance Minister, the NTPIC is mandated to coordinate all stakeholders, conduct nationwide consultations, run aggressive public enlightenment campaigns, eliminate overlaps and contradictions among agencies, plug revenue leakages, and ensure the four tax reform bills currently before the National Assembly are implemented effectively and on schedule.

President Tinubu, represented at the event, charged the committee to deliver measurable results that will ease the tax burden on ordinary Nigerians and small businesses while significantly boosting government revenue for infrastructure and social services.

Dr. Adedeji described the inauguration as “a defining moment in Nigeria’s fiscal history,” stressing that the reforms will create a simpler, fairer, and more efficient tax system that supports economic growth without punishing the poor.

The NTPIC is expected to begin immediate nationwide stakeholder engagements next week as the administration pushes to pass and implement the reforms before the end of the 2025 fiscal year.
