Eric Chele, the Super Eagles head coach, has made two
changes to the team’s starting line-up for the second game against Tunisia at
the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Franco-Malian coach opts to adjust the shape of the
Eagles’ side that defeated Tanzania 2-1 in their opening game of the
competition.
Samuel Chukwueze, who was one of the drifting wingers that
started the previous game, is dropped to the bench and replaced by Frank
Onyeka, a defensive midfielder.
Onyeka will form a midfield trident with Alex Iwobi and
Wilfred Ndidi.
Zaidu Sanusi, one of the players who got sticks for their
performances in the first game, is replaced by Bruno Onyemaechi, his direct
competition in the left-back position.
The left-back will flank the retained centre-back pairing of Calvin Bassey and Semi Ajayi, while Bright Osayi-Samuel also continued his shift as the right-back.
The familiar duo of Victor Osimhen and Akor Adam will lead
the team’s attack, with Ademola Lookman with positional freedom to find space
behind them.
The Super Eagles take on Tunisia at 9 pm Nigerian time on
Saturday. The team will face Uganda in the final group match on December 30.
A win against Tunisia will seal Nigeria’s progress into the
knockout phase of the competition. However, the last time the two teams met at
AFCON, Tunisia sent Nigeria out of the 2021 edition.
Super Eagles Starting XI: Stanley Nwabali, Bright
Osayi-Samuel, Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, Bruno Onyeamaechi; Wilfred Ndidi (C),
Frank Onyeka, Alex Iwobi; Ademola Lookman, Akor Adams, Victor Osimhen.
